Paul Frere's book provides an engineer's perspective on race and high performance driving. While he doesn't delve into car setup, this is a great baseline for future understanding.
Ross Bentley's book is required reading for the Proformance Race School's 2-day competition licensing class. It provides clear and well defined concepts that are critical to learning to be faster.
A bible of easy to understand information covering all aspects of racing, from basic chassis setup, to theory to passing techniques. If you're interested in racing, this book should be in your library.
Bentley BMW 3 Series Service Manual: 1984-1991
I could not function without my Bentley manual. It is superior and much more
detailed than Haynes or Chiltons.
